The Nottingham Review and General Advertiser for the Midland Counties September 18, 1846 states that 'On the 14th July last at Chinsurah, of Cholera, on the eve of returning to England with his regiment, after many years of foreign service, Brevet Captain Denis Browne of H.M 31st Foot.
