Daughter of Mr. L.P. Vernieux, librarian of the English department of Hooghly College and a drawing master in the same place. He was appointed on the 20th of May 1840, with a monthly salary of Rs. 70, and worked there till 1848. Thereafter Mr. Vernieux resigned and set up as a professional conjurer, but was unable to attain much success. L.P. Vernieux incidentally was one of the witnesses to the marriage of Charles Vernieux and Susan Matilda Godfrey. Adelaide also had a brother who was born on 20th Oct 1842.
